Target Information
Macrophage receptor that binds to the apolipoprotein B48 (APOB) of dietary triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TRL) or to a similar domain of APOB in hypertriglyceridemic very low density lipoprotein (HTG-VLDL). It binds and internalizes TRL when outside the context of macrophages, possibly providing essential lipids to reticuloendothelial cells. May also be involved in foam cell formation under elevated TRL and remnant lipoprotein (RLP) conditions. Mediates rapid, high-affinity uptake of chylomicrons (CM), HTG-VLDL, and trypsinized VLDL devoid of APOE in vitro.
