Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
The 20S core consists of 4 rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two rings of 7 alpha and two rings of 7 beta subunits).
The 19S regulator includes a base with ATPase and non-ATPase subunits and a lid with up to 10 non-ATPase subunits.
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome plays a role in processing class I MHC peptides.
This gene encodes a non-ATPase subunit of the 19S regulator, with two transcript isoforms and pseudogenes on chromosomes 3 and 20.
