Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs are signaling molecules that regulate various cellular processes including cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation.
This PTP possesses an extracellular region, a single transmembrane region, and a single intracellular catalytic domain, representing a receptor-type PTP.
A similar gene predominantly expressed in mouse brain was found to associate with and regulate MAP kinase activity and localization.
The rat counterpart is regulated by nerve growth factor, suggesting a role in neuronal growth and differentiation.
