Target Information
The EWSR1 gene encodes a multifunctional protein involved in gene expression, cell signaling, and RNA processing and transport. It contains an N-terminal transcriptional activation domain and a C-terminal RNA-binding domain. Chromosomal translocations involving this gene and various transcription factor genes result in chimeric proteins implicated in tumorigenesis, including Ewing sarcoma and related tumors. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants, and pseudogenes have been identified on chromosomes 1 and 14.
