Target Information
The NBPF4 gene belongs to the neuroblastoma breakpoint family (NBPF), which includes many recently duplicated genes primarily located in segmental duplications on human chromosome 1. These genes are characterized by tandemly repeated DUF1220 protein domains. Variations in the 1q21.1 region, where DUF1220 domains are found, have been linked to various developmental and neurogenetic disorders such as microcephaly, macrocephaly, autism, schizophrenia, congenital heart disease, and neuroblastoma. Altered expression of certain NBPF family members has also been associated with several cancers. This gene family contains numerous pseudogenes.
