Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속하며, 중추신경계의 astrocyte 및 특정 astroglia, 말초신경계의 위성세포와 비수초화 슈반세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다.
GFAP 항체는 astrocytic cell 마커로 유용하며, 다양한 뇌종양에서 GFAP 발현이 높게 나타납니다. 또한 렌즈 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 침샘 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다.
GFAP는 발달 과정에서 astrocyte와 다른 glial cell을 구분하는 마커로 사용되며, GFAP 유전자 변이는 Alexander disease를 유발할 수 있습니다.
GFAP 유전자의 대체 스플라이싱으로 여러 isoform을 형성합니다.
