Target Information
The ABCC1 gene encodes a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. These proteins transport various molecules across cellular membranes and are divided into seven subfamilies: ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, and White.
ABCC1 belongs to the MRP subfamily, associated with multi-drug resistance. It functions as a multispecific organic anion transporter, handling substrates such as oxidized glutathione, cysteinyl leukotrienes, and activated aflatoxin B1. It also transports glucuronides and sulfate conjugates of steroid hormones and bile salts.
Alternative splicing by exon deletion produces several splice variants while maintaining the original open reading frame.
