DEGS1 유전자는 sphingolipid delta 4 desaturase 계열의 막 결합 지방산 탈포화 효소를 암호화합니다. 이 효소는 지방산의 delta 4 위치에 이중 결합을 삽입하는 기능을 가지며, 세포 내 효소로 작용합니다. 과발현 시 EGF 수용체의 생합성을 억제하는 것으로 보고되어, 지방산 탈포화 효소가 EGF 수용체의 생합성 조절에 관여할 가능성이 제시되었습니다. 두 가지 스플라이스 변이가 확인되었습니다.
