Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels are a complex class of voltage-gated ion channels with diverse physiological roles, including regulation of neurotransmitter release, heart rate, insulin secretion, neuronal excitability, epithelial electrolyte transport, smooth muscle contraction, and cell volume.
KCNV1 encodes a member of the potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily V, primarily expressed in the brain, potentially functioning to inhibit certain outward rectifier potassium channel types.
