Target Information
Cytoplasmic ribosomes, which catalyze protein synthesis, consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit composed of 4 RNA species and about 80 distinct proteins.
This gene encodes a ribosomal protein component of the 60S subunit, sharing sequence similarity with yeast ribosomal protein L44 and belonging to the L44E (L36AE) family.
RPL36AL and RPL36A encode nearly identical proteins but are distinct genes. The official name of this gene is ribosomal protein L36a-like (RPL36AL).
Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome.
