Target Information

Dyneins are multi-subunit, high molecular weight ATPases that interact with microtubules to generate force by converting the chemical energy of ATP into mechanical energy. Cytoplasmic or axonemal Dynein heavy, intermediate, light, and light-intermediate chains are components of minus end-directed motors that transport cellular cargos toward the cell center.
Axonemal Dynein motors contain one to three non-identical heavy chains and drive microtubule sliding in cilia and flagella, enabling motility. Cytoplasmic Dynein is a ~12-subunit complex including heavy, intermediate, and light chains, essential for organelle transport and centrosome assembly.
The carboxy-terminus is conserved and critical for motility, while amino-terminal regions vary. Dynein activity is regulated by proteins such as Dynactin, LIS1, and Nudel (NudE-like).
