Target Information
Gross cystic disease of the breast is a benign premenopausal disorder characterized by cystic lesions formed from excessive apocrine secretions. The cystic fluid contains several glycoproteins, including the 15 kDa monomer protein Gross Cystic Disease Fluid Protein-15 (GCDFP15).
GCDFP15 is found in apocrine epithelia, lacrimal, ceruminous, and Moll’s glands, as well as serous cells of submandibular, tracheal, bronchial, sublingual, and minor salivary glands.
GCDFP15 and prostate-specific antigen are co-expressed in androgen receptor-positive breast tumors.
