Target Information
NFKB1 or NFKB2 binds to REL, RELA, or RELB to form the NF-κB complex. This complex is inhibited by IκB proteins (NFKBIA or NFKBIB), which trap NF-κB in the cytoplasm. Phosphorylation of serine residues by kinases (IKBKA or IKBKB) targets IκB proteins for ubiquitination and degradation, thereby activating NF-κB. The activated complex translocates to the nucleus and binds DNA at κB-binding motifs such as 5'-GGGRNNYYCC-3' or 5'-HGGARNYYCC-3'. NF-κB activation may require interactions with other transcription factors including STAT6, AP1 (JUN), and NFAT (NFATC1).
