Target Information
Glycophorin C (GYPC) is an integral membrane glycoprotein found in human erythrocytes. Although it is a minor component, it plays a crucial role in maintaining red cell mechanical stability. Several mutations in the glycophorin C gene have been reported, leading to various phenotypes such as Gerbich and Yus (due to exon deletions), and Webb and Duch (resulting from point mutations). Glycophorin C shares little homology with glycophorins A and B.
