Members of the Dynamin family include GTPase, microtubule-associated proteins that are involved in cellular trafficking, including microtubule bundling and endocytosis.
Mx1 (also known as MxA) is an interferon (IFN)-induced protein that confers resistance to influenza A virus and vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), suggesting an active antiviral role.
Mx1 is a cytoplasmic protein that shares 63% identity with Mx2 (also known as MxB), which lacks antiviral activity.
Mx2 is localized at the cytoplasmic face of nuclear pores and is thought to regulate nuclear import efficiency and kinetics, independently of interferon signaling.
