Target Information
BUBR1 is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and a key component of the mitotic checkpoint that delays anaphase until all chromosomes are properly attached to the spindle. Defects in this checkpoint contribute to genetic instability and may lead to malignant transformation. Human cells contain two related checkpoint kinases, hBUBR1 and hBUB1, both monitoring kinetochore-microtubule interactions. hBUBR1 is essential for normal mitosis, preventing premature anaphase entry. BUBR1 has been detected in various human cancers and interacts with BCSG1 (Breast Cancer-Specific Gene 1), which may accelerate breast cancer progression by inactivating BUBR1.
