Target Information
Sorcin is a 198 amino acid, soluble, resistance-related, calcium-binding cytosolic protein belonging to the penta-EF hand (PEF) family of calcium-binding proteins and contains four EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. Human Sorcin shares 95% sequence identity with hamster Sorcin. It associates with sarcolemmal proteins such as Annexin VII, cardiac ryanodine receptors, and L-type Ca²⁺ channels, influencing intracellular Ca²⁺ homeostasis. Sorcin regulates intracellular Ca²⁺ cycling and influx pathways in cardiac and skeletal muscle during excitation-contraction. It is overproduced in many multidrug resistance (MDR) cells and regulates apoptosis pathways, serving as a marker for AML prognosis and a target for anti-MDR drug development.
