Target Information
Carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are zinc metalloenzymes that catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide.
They exhibit extensive diversity in distribution and subcellular localization and participate in various biological processes such as calcification, bone resorption, respiration, acid-base balance, and formation of aqueous humor, saliva, gastric juice, and cerebrospinal fluid.
CA VB (Carbonate Dehydratase VB) is one of two isoforms of CA V, localized to mitochondria and involved in metabolic processes.
It is predominantly expressed in heart, pancreas, lung, placenta, kidney, and skeletal muscle.
Unlike CA VA, CA VB is not expressed in the liver, suggesting a distinct physiological role.
