Target Information
CD7 (gp40, Leu9) is a 40 kDa member of the immunoglobulin gene superfamily.
- N-terminal amino acids (1–107) are highly homologous to Ig kappa-L chains.
- The carboxy-terminal region of the extracellular domain is proline-rich and may form a stalk projecting the Ig domain.
- Expressed on immature and mature T-lymphocytes, T cell leukemia, natural killer cells, a small subset of normal and malignant B cells.
- Cross-linking of surface CD7 modulates T cell and NK cell activity (calcium flux, adhesion molecule expression, cytokine secretion, proliferation).
- CD7 associates directly with phosphoinositol 3-kinase and induces D-3 phosphoinositide production and tyrosine phosphorylation.
- CD7 expression is an important marker in leukemia diagnostics.
