Target Information
Chromosome 6 comprises approximately 6% of the human genome, containing around 1,200 genes within 170 million base pairs. Deletion of a portion of the q arm of chromosome 6 is associated with early onset intestinal cancer, suggesting a cancer susceptibility locus. Chromosome 6 also includes genes linked to porphyria cutanea tarda (via the HFE gene), Parkinson’s disease (PARK2 gene), and the major histocompatibility complex proteins that influence immune response and rheumatic disease predisposition. Additionally, Stickler syndrome, 21-hydroxylase deficiency, maple syrup urine disease, and bipolar disorder susceptibility loci are located on chromosome 6.
