Target Information
Thiopurine S-methyltransferase (TPMT) catalyzes the S-methylation of thiopurine drugs such as 6-mercaptopurine. Defects in TPMT cause thiopurine S-methyltransferase deficiency, affecting drug metabolism. TPMT activity variations are linked to genetic differences at the TPMT locus, influencing patient response and toxicity risk to thiopurine-based treatments used in leukemia, autoimmune diseases, and organ transplantation.
