Background
- Domain: Binds ubiquitinated proteins via its RanBP2-type zinc finger.
- Function: The ternary complex containing UFD1L, VCP, and NPLOC4 binds ubiquitinated proteins and is necessary for the export of misfolded proteins from the ER to the cytoplasm, where they are degraded by the proteasome.
- Pathway: Protein degradation; proteasomal ubiquitin-dependent pathway.
- Similarity: Belongs to the NPL4 family; contains one RanBP2-type zinc finger.
- Subcellular location: Associated with the endoplasmic reticulum and nuclear regions.
- Subunit: Forms a heterodimer with UFD1L, which binds ubiquitinated proteins and associates with VCP to inhibit Golgi membrane fusion.
