Background
Function: Receptor for netrin, potentially involved in axon guidance by mediating axon repulsion of neuronal growth cones during nervous system development upon ligand binding. Axon repulsion may be triggered by association with DCC, inducing repulsion signaling.
Apoptosis: Acts as a dependence receptor required for apoptosis induction when not associated with netrin ligand.
Post-translational Modifications (PTM): Phosphorylated on cytoplasmic tyrosine residues; proteolytically cleaved by caspases during apoptosis (cleavage blocked when bound to netrin).
Similarity: Belongs to the unc-5 family; contains 1 death domain, 1 Ig-like domain, 1 Ig-like C2-type domain, 1 ZU5 domain, and 2 TSP type-1 domains.
