Background
This gene belongs to the roadblock dynein light chain family. The encoded cytoplasmic protein binds intermediate chain proteins, interacts with transforming growth factor-beta, and regulates actin-modulating proteins. Upregulation of this gene is associated with hepatocellular carcinoma, suggesting a role in tumor progression. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. Pseudogenes have been identified on chromosomes 12 and 18 (RefSeq, Aug 2013).
