Target Information
Delta-like 1 homolog (DLK1) is a transmembrane protein containing six epidermal growth factor repeats. It plays a role in the differentiation of various cell types, including adipocytes, and is considered a tumor suppressor. The DLK1 gene is located in an imprinted region on chromosome 14q32. Mutations in this region can lead to phenotypes similar to uniparental disomy of chromosome 14 (UPD14). DLK1 is expressed from the paternal allele, and certain polymorphisms are associated with childhood and adolescent obesity.
