- At least three isoforms of SHBG are known to exist; this antibody detects all three isoforms.
Target Information
SHBG (Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin) is a steroid-binding plasma protein secreted by the liver and plays a role in regulating steroid hormone responses. It transports androgens and estrogens in the blood, binding each steroid molecule as a dimer of identical or nearly identical monomers.
Low plasma SHBG levels are associated with obesity, abdominal adiposity, metabolic syndrome, and increased risk of type 2 diabetes.
Polymorphisms in this gene have been linked to polycystic ovary syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
