NLRC4 (NLR family CARD domain-containing 4) encodes a member of the caspase recruitment domain-containing NLR family. These proteins play essential roles in innate immune responses to pathogenic organisms, tissue damage, and cellular stress. Mutations in this gene are associated with autoinflammation with infantile enterocolitis. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
