Target Information
Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases are enzymes that charge tRNAs with their cognate amino acids. The HARS2 gene encodes a class II aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase involved in histidyl-transfer RNA synthesis and protein biosynthesis regulation. Located head-to-head with HARS on chromosome 5, both genes may share a bidirectional promoter. Mutations in HARS2 are linked to Perrault syndrome, characterized by ovarian dysgenesis and sensorineural hearing loss. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing.
