Target Information
Rho-like GTPases are involved in various cellular processes, activated by GTP binding and inactivated by GTP hydrolysis. Guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEFs) catalyze the release of GDP from Rho GTPases, thus activating them.
The ARHGEF3 gene encodes a GEF that specifically activates RHOA and RHOB, both involved in bone cell biology. Genetic variations in ARHGEF3 are linked to bone mineral density (BMD) and postmenopausal osteoporosis. Alternative splicing results in different isoforms.
