Target Information
PIK3CG (p110γ) is the sole class IB phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase family member, generating the second messenger PIP2. Unlike class IA enzymes that signal downstream of receptor tyrosine kinases, PIK3CG primarily signals downstream of GPCRs.
It phosphorylates phosphoinositides on the 3-hydroxyl group of the inositol ring and modulates extracellular signals, including those from E-cadherin-mediated cell-cell adhesion, essential for epithelial integrity.
Additionally, it plays a pivotal role in regulating cytotoxicity in NK cells. The gene is located in a commonly deleted segment of chromosome 7 associated with myeloid leukemias.
