Target Information
Nipa2 encodes a protein that acts as a selective Mg(2+) transporter. The Nipa2 gene encodes a possible magnesium transporter and is located adjacent to the imprinted domain in the Prader–Willi syndrome deletion region of chromosome 15. Alternate splicing of the Nipa2 gene results in multiple transcript variants. Pseudogenes of the Nipa2 gene are found on chromosomes 3, 7, and 21.
Diseases associated with NIPA2 include Angelman Syndrome and Prader–Willi Syndrome.
