Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to a family of actin-related proteins sharing significant sequence identity with conventional actins. Both actins and ARPs have an actin fold, an ATP-binding cleft common to both. ARPs are involved in diverse cellular processes such as vesicular transport, spindle orientation, nuclear migration, and chromatin remodeling.
ACTL7B and ACTL7A genes are intronless and located approximately 4 kb apart in a head-to-head orientation within the familial dysautonomia candidate region on chromosome 9q31. Studies suggest ACTL7B is not involved in dysautonomia pathogenesis. Unlike ACTL7A, ACTL7B is predominantly expressed in the testis, though its exact function remains unknown.
