Target Information

LYNX1 acts in different tissues through interaction with nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs). It modulates nAChR activity depending on receptor subtype and stoichiometry, influencing trafficking, surface expression, and single-channel properties. LYNX1 prevents excessive excitation and neurodegeneration by enhancing desensitization of alpha-4:beta-2-containing nAChRs and slowing recovery from desensitization. It promotes large amplitude ACh-evoked currents through alpha-4:beta-2 receptors and regulates nAChR pentameric assembly in the endoplasmic reticulum, shifting stoichiometry from high to low sensitivity forms. In vitro, it modulates alpha-3:beta-4-containing nAChRs and reduces cell surface expression of specific receptor subtypes, suggesting an allosteric interaction. These effects contribute to altered conductance, burst proportions, and enhanced desensitization, impacting neuronal plasticity in the visual cortex.
