CPA1 (Carboxypeptidase A1)
CPA1, also known as CPA, is a 419 amino acid secreted monomeric protein highly expressed in pancreatic tissue. It functions as a pancreatic exopeptidase using zinc as a cofactor to catalyze the release of C-terminal amino acids from various proteins, playing a key role in protein digestion and degradation.
CPA1 activity is also thought to contribute to zymogen inhibition, potentially regulating enzyme activation pathways. Abnormal CPA1 expression is associated with pancreatic cancer, indicating a possible role in tumor progression or suppression.
