Target Information
The dopamine receptor D4 gene encodes a G-protein coupled receptor that inhibits adenylyl cyclase. It is a pharmacological target for drugs treating schizophrenia and Parkinson’s disease. Mutations are associated with behavioral phenotypes such as autonomic nervous system dysfunction, ADHD, and novelty seeking. The gene contains a polymorphic number (2–10 copies) of tandem 48 nt repeats; the sequence shown contains four repeats.
