Background
Keratins are intermediate filament proteins responsible for maintaining the structural integrity of epithelial cells. They are categorized into epithelial and hair keratins. The Keratin 77 gene encodes an epithelial keratin expressed in the skin and eccrine sweat glands. Type II keratins are located in the chromosome 12q13 region (RefSeq, Jun 2009).
