Target Information
The Cathepsin K protein is a lysosomal cysteine protease involved in bone remodeling and resorption. It belongs to the peptidase C1 family and is predominantly expressed in osteoclasts. The protein is also expressed in a significant fraction of human breast cancers, potentially contributing to tumor invasiveness. Mutations in this gene cause pycnodysostosis, an autosomal recessive disease characterized by osteosclerosis and short stature. This gene may also be subject to RNA editing.
