Target Information

Heterogeneous nuclear RNAs (hnRNAs), including mRNA precursors and mature mRNAs, are associated with specific proteins to form heterogeneous ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) complexes.
Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein L (HNRNPL) is one of the proteins stably associated with hnRNP complexes and, together with other hnRNP proteins, plays a major role in the formation, packaging, processing, and function of mRNA.

HNRNPL is present in the nucleoplasm as part of the HNRNP complex and has also been identified outside of the nucleoplasm. The exchange of hnRNP for mRNA-binding proteins accompanies the transport of mRNA from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. Since hnRNP proteins shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm, they may also have cytoplasmic functions. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
