Target Information

BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) is a member of the neurotrophin family. It is synthesized as pre-proBDNF, followed by cleavage to proBDNF, and further processed to the mature 14 kDa protein. Both mature and pro-BDNF are biologically active and secreted in synaptic vesicles.
BDNF is widely expressed in the central nervous system and acts via TrkB and p75-NTR receptors to promote neuronal survival, differentiation, and synaptic regulation. It plays a key role in memory formation and is essential for the survival of striatal neurons.
Reduced BDNF expression has been observed in Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s disease and may be involved in stress response and mood regulation.
