GAL3ST3는 galactose-3-O-sulfotransferase 단백질 계열의 구성원입니다. 이 효소는 N-acetyllactosamine의 type 2 (Gal-β-1-4GlcNAc-R) 올리고당 및 core-2-branch O-glycan에서 galactose의 3’ 위치로 황산기를 전달하는 반응을 촉매합니다. type 1 또는 core-1 구조에서는 작용하지 않습니다. GAL3ST3는 GAL3ST2 유전자와 혼동될 수 있으나, GAL3ST2는 염색체 2에 위치하며 조직 분포 및 기질 특성이 다릅니다.
