Target Information
Members of the M14 metallocarboxypeptidase protein family serve diverse functions and are divided into three subfamilies based on structure, function, and amino acid sequence similarity.
CPA6 (Carboxypeptidase A6) is a 437 amino acid secreted, zinc-binding protein containing a propetide at the amino terminus, cleaved upon activation. Expressed broadly in embryonic tissues, CPA6 is found at highest levels in the adult olfactory bulb and epididymis.
CPA6 cleaves large C-terminal hydrophobic residues from proteins and substrates, likely involved in extracellular neuropeptide processing. Mutations in CPA6 are linked to Duane syndrome, a congenital eye-movement disorder associated with abnormal cranial nerve VI development.
Three isoforms of CPA6 exist due to alternative splicing.
