WFDC1 유전자는 WAP-type four disulfide core domain family에 속하며, 단백질 내 8개의 시스테인이 4개의 이황화 결합을 형성하여 단백질의 핵심 구조를 유지합니다. 여러 구성원에서 단백질 분해효소 억제 기능을 수행하며, rat ps20 단백질과 81%의 아미노산 서열 유사성을 가집니다.
이 유전자는 암에서 자주 관찰되는 염색체 16q24 영역에 위치하며, 전립선암, 유방암, 간세포암 및 Wilms 종양 등에서 이형접합성 소실이 보고되었습니다. 위치 및 성장 억제 특성으로 인해 종양 억제 유전자로 제안됩니다.
