Target Information

Ibritumomab is a monoclonal antibody directed against the CD20 antigen found on pre-B and mature B lymphocytes (both normal and malignant). Binding of Ibritumomab induces apoptosis in B lymphocytes in vitro. It is combined with the chelator tiuxetan, which provides a specific chelation site for Yttrium-90 (Y-90). The antibody functions as a delivery system to target the radioactive isotope to specific cells, although binding can occur in lymphoid cells throughout the body and in lymphoid nodules of organs such as the large and small intestines. Beta-emission induces cellular damage through free radical formation in both target and surrounding cells.
