Target Information
USP7 (also known as HAUSP) is a ubiquitin-specific protease that removes ubiquitin from substrate proteins. It plays a key role in regulating protein stability and degradation. USP7 antagonizes Mdm2, the E3 ligase for p53, thereby stabilizing p53 in response to oncogenic stress. It may function as a tumor suppressor by protecting p53 from degradation. USP7 also interacts with oncogenic pathways involving Myc and E1A, potentially providing an alternative mechanism for maintaining p53 stability independent of ARF.
