Background
Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit, composed of four RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. This gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L19E family. It is localized in the cytoplasm, and multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome. (RefSeq, Jul 2008)
