Background
MAGE family member A10 (MAGEA10) is a human gene belonging to the MAGEA gene family. Members of this family encode proteins with 50–80% sequence identity. The promoters and first exons of MAGEA genes vary considerably, allowing similar functions to be expressed under different transcriptional controls. These genes are clustered at chromosomal location Xq28 and have been implicated in hereditary disorders such as dyskeratosis congenita. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, and read-through transcription exists between this gene and the downstream MAGEA5 gene. (RefSeq, Oct 2011)
