세포 내 위치 (Cellular Localization)

Nucleus, Cytoplasm, Cytoplasm (perinuclear region), Cytoplasm (P-body), Cytoplasm (stress granule), Cell projection (lamellipodium, dendrite, dendritic spine, growth cone, filopodium, axon).
In the nucleus, located in discrete foci coinciding with sites of ACTB transcription (By similarity).
In the cytoplasm, localizes in cytoplasmic mRNP granules and colocalizes with microtubules in growth cone filopodia and along neurites in neuronal cells (By similarity).
Cytoplasmic colocalization with ACTB mRNA is partially lost at the cell periphery, suggesting transcript release.
In neuronal processes, exhibits fast retrograde and anterograde movements when associated with ACTB mRNA.

Background

This gene encodes a member of the insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein family.
The encoded protein contains four K homology domains and two RNA recognition motifs.
It functions by binding to the mRNAs of certain genes, including insulin-like growth factor 2, beta-actin, and beta-transducin repeat-containing protein, thereby regulating their translation.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
