Target Information

CACNA1D (also known as PASNA, SANDD, or CaV1.3) encodes the alpha-1D subunit of the voltage-dependent calcium channel complex. These channels mediate calcium ion entry into excitable cells and participate in processes such as muscle contraction, neurotransmitter release, and gene expression.
Calcium channels are multisubunit complexes composed of alpha-1, beta, alpha-2/delta, and gamma subunits. The alpha-1 subunit forms the pore and determines channel properties, while the others act as auxiliary regulators. Multiple alpha-1 isoforms (A, B, C, D, E, S) confer distinct functional properties. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms of CACNA1D have been identified.
