Target Information
The CD2AP gene encodes a scaffolding molecule that regulates the actin cytoskeleton. The protein interacts with filamentous actin and various cell membrane proteins through multiple actin-binding sites, SH3 domains, and a proline-rich region containing SH3 domain binding sites. It localizes to membrane ruffles, lipid rafts, and leading cell edges, playing a role in actin remodeling and membrane trafficking during receptor endocytosis and cytokinesis. Haploinsufficiency of this gene is associated with susceptibility to glomerular disease.
