Target Information
Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two distinct subclasses, one utilizing NAD(+) and the other NADP(+) as electron acceptors. Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported: three NAD(+)-dependent enzymes localized in the mitochondrial matrix, and two NADP(+)-dependent enzymes, one mitochondrial and the other predominantly cytosolic. The cytoplasmic NADP(+)-dependent enzyme, encoded by this gene, is also found in peroxisomes and contains a PTS-1 peroxisomal targeting signal sequence. It plays a role in regenerating NADPH for peroxisomal reductions and in cytoplasmic NADPH production.
